The full checklist

Read the sequence before starting. Follow each step only when its preparation and branch conditions are met.

  1. Read the HE marking, concentration and dosing directions on the product. Record load size, soil and known water softness; do not invent a dose if the label is unreadable.

    Source: LG WM4000H*A / WM4080H*A Owner’s Manual · pp. 5, 20–22
  2. Measure liquid or powder rather than pouring by eye. For an average load, the washer manual specifies less than half the detergent manufacturer's recommended maximum; use less for small loads, light soil or soft water. Observe the product label and never exceed its maximum.

    Source: LG WM4000H*A / WM4080H*A Owner’s Manual · pp. 5, 20–22
  3. For liquid detergent, keep the liquid cup in the main-wash compartment. For powdered main-wash detergent, remove that liquid cup. Keep below the marked maximum; a maximum mark is not a target dose.

    Source: LG WM4000H*A / WM4080H*A Owner’s Manual · pp. 5, 20–22
  4. If using a single-use pack, use no more than one and put it in the drum before the laundry. Keep packs, gels and tablets out of the dispenser. If using a pack, omit the liquid/powder dispensing step.

    Source: LG WM4000H*A / WM4080H*A Owner’s Manual · pp. 5, 20–22
  5. Gently close the drawer and use an appropriate normal cycle. Record the measured amount or pack count. At cycle completion, inspect for residue or excessive suds before setting a dose for another load.

When to stop

  • Smoke, a burning smell, damaged wiring, standing water near power, or an active leak: stop using the appliance. Disconnect power only from a safe, dry location and arrange qualified service.
  • Stop if a part is damaged, jammed, sharp, inaccessible, or does not match your manual. Do not force parts or remove a cabinet panel.
Every check and possible next step

Start at “Is a readable HE detergent label available?”. Choose only what you observed. An unobserved condition is its own answer.

Is a readable HE detergent label available?

Is a readable HE detergent label available?

Use this task before adding product. Existing excess suds or leakage needs its own task first.

Steps for this check: 1.

  • HE marking and dosing directions are readable
Continue to Which measured detergent format will you use?.
  • Wrong product, unreadable label or no dosing need
Adjust the product plan — Confirm HE detergent and its dose before starting. For residue after a completed wash, review the measured amount and the manual's Extra Rinse guidance; use the separate excess-suds task if needed.
  • Suds or water are escaping
Pause and arrange qualified help — Keep the appliance out of use if a safety concern remains. Give the technician the exact model, the visible symptom and any displayed code. Do not open the cabinet or make electrical measurements.
  • I have not read the product label
Observation still needed — Your notes are saved. The missing observation is not evidence of a fault or a completed action. Complete only the steps you can perform safely, or ask for help.
